Wesenitztal-Runde: Lohmener Klamm, Liebethaler Grund und Lochmühle – hike
From the sports ground in Lohmen, you walk down to the Wesenitz and through the Lohmener Klamm, where the river narrows between wooded slopes. Further down, the Liebethaler Grund opens out; since 1933 it has been home to what the source describes as the largest Richard Wagner monument in the world. On the way back you pass the Lochmühle, built before 1559, and the even older remains of the Daubemühle from 1465. Finally, the path leads through fields and meadows back to Lohmen, where the castle now houses the municipal administration and the church from 1789, with its white interior and wooden galleries, is open to visitors. Part of the route runs along roads, which some walkers find a drawback.
Tip: The Liebethaler Grund is the start of the Malerweg and is busy at weekends. After heavy rain, the valley path along the Wesenitz can be wet or muddy.
