Von Neukirch auf den Valtenberg – hike
From Neukirch-West station you climb up over the Rückenberg and reach the hunting lodge Jagdbaude Hohwaldschänke, a good opportunity for a first break. Via the Angstberg the path continues up to the Valtenberg, at 587 metres the highest peak of the western Lausitzer Bergland. On the summit stands the 22-metre-high König-Johann-Turm with its viewing platform; in clear weather the view reaches as far as the Iser Mountains and the Giant Mountains. The descent follows the green stripe via the Georgenbad and the Valtentalsee back to the starting point. The paths are mostly wide forest tracks, with some steeper trails in between.
