Sächsischer Weinwanderweg, Etappe 1: Pirna nach Dresden-Pillnitz – hike
The stage begins at the Elbe and leads straight into the Mockethaler Grund, a narrow, wooded side valley. Via Graupa, with its hunting lodge and the Richard Wagner sites, and on through Kleingraupa, you reach Oberpoyritz and the Rysselkuppe with its view into the Elbe valley. The last section runs through the Pillnitzer Königlicher Weinberg with the Weinbergkirche and ends at the former village square by Schloss Pillnitz. Along the way there are several wineries, Besenwirtschaften and wine taverns whose opening times change with the season. The surface alternates between forest tracks, field paths and cobbled village streets.
Tip: This is a one-way hike, so it is best to plan your return journey by bus and S-Bahn. Besenwirtschaften (seasonal pop-up wine taverns) only open at certain times of the year.
