Růžovský vrch (Rosenberg) von Srbská Kamenice – hike
At 619 metres, the Růžovský vrch is the highest mountain in the Böhmische Schweiz, and as a dark basalt cone it can be spotted from far away above the sandstone landscape. From Srbská Kamenice the yellow trail marking leads steadily uphill across meadows and through forest. The slopes are covered in old, primeval-like woodland, and at the northern foot remnants of old snow linger in ice holes well into summer. At the summit all that remains of the former lookout tower are some ruins, together with cellar vaults and foundations of the old inn and a wooden cross; the dense forest allows views only in a few places. The way back leads along the Růžová nature trail. A tower built in 1904 was demolished in 1938 because it had become structurally unsafe.
Tip: The summit is freely accessible all year round; yellow-marked trails lead up from both Růžová and Srbská Kamenice, and parking is free in both villages. The view is limited, as the summit is wooded. A shorter option is the circuit of just under 7 kilometres around the mountain, with the viewpoint Pastevní vrch at 402 metres, which is considered not very demanding. Růžovský vrch and the paths around it were already accessible again in August 2022 after the fire; in the national park there is a risk from falling trees. Please bring cash in crowns and your ID card.
