Rundwanderung zur Oberen Schleuse mit Kahnfahrt – hike
From the Buchenparkhalle, the Hohweg leads down in about 45 minutes to the boat landing stage on the dammed section of the Kirnitzsch. There you board a boat for a roughly 20-minute trip through the narrowest part of the gorge to the dam; on the way, the boatman tells you about the rocks and the yellow sulphur lichens on the walls. Afterwards you climb out of the gorge and take the Höhenweg via Hermannseck, Wettinplatz and Königsplatz back to Hinterhermsdorf. The surface alternates between firm forest tracks and narrow paths, and the gorge stays cool and damp even in summer. Sturdy footwear is clearly more comfortable on this tour than trainers.
