Liebethaler Grund zum Richard-Wagner-Denkmal – hike
The path follows the Wesenitz through a narrow, wooded valley where Richard Wagner worked on his Lohengrin in 1846. After just a few minutes you will stand in front of the largest Wagner monument in the world, created by Richard Guhr in 1911; a listening station plays the overture. Right next to it lie the ruins of the Lochmühle, and shortly after that a small waterfall on the Wesenitz. Around sixty per cent of the route is tarmacked, the rest is gravel and forest track. Heading towards Mühlsdorf, the sandstone-paved climb becomes noticeably steeper, at twelve to fourteen per cent.
Tip: There are no designated disabled parking spaces at the starting point. After rain the first section is soft, so you will need to push a wheelchair or pushchair.
