Kuhstall und Himmelsleiter ab Lichtenhainer Wasserfall – hike
From the Wanderparkplatz am Wasserfall (hikers' car park) you climb briskly out of the Kirnitzschtal and quickly gain height on wooden steps and forest paths. At the top you reach the Kuhstall, the largest natural rock arch in Saxon Switzerland, which cuts through the ridge of the Neuer Wildenstein. If you like, you can climb from there through the Himmelsleiter, a narrow rock cleft with steps, up to the plateau above the arch. The way back leads down the opposite slope into the valley again, mostly on natural and gravel paths. The route follows paths that Caspar David Friedrich sketched around 1818.
