Geisingberg-Runde von Lauenstein – hike

The circuit starts at the old milestone in Lauenstein and climbs gently along the road Baderberg for the first two kilometres or so. After that, the path leads up the Geisingberg, whose summit is given as 821 or 824 metres depending on the source and which is crowned by a basalt lookout tower; from there the view stretches across the northern and eastern Erzgebirge. Then it goes down to the Sachsenhöhe at about 632 metres, crossing the species-rich mountain meadows of the nature reserve on the way. If you like, you can make a detour to the disused gneiss quarry near Lauenstein. The way back leads via Lauenstein station into the village.

Tip: The mountain meadows are at their most beautiful in late spring and early summer. In the nature reserve, please stay on the paths – corncrakes, among others, breed here.
