Durch den Uttewalder Grund zum Felsentor nach Stadt Wehlen – hike
From Lohmen you follow the Malerweg along the Uttewalder Straße and the Brückwaldweg into the Uttewalder Grund. The gorge narrows steadily until, at the Uttewalder Felsentor, mighty blocks of rock push in over the path. Caspar David Friedrich drew here in 1800, and the atmosphere in the Grund explains why. A short detour leads to the rock formations of the Teufelskammer. Finally, you descend through the Wehlener Grund to the market square of Stadt Wehlen.
Tip: In winter the paths are not cleared or gritted, so please skip this tour in icy conditions. It is a point-to-point hike, so plan your return journey in advance. With children: narrow crevices, sand to play in and a small cave in the Teufelsschlüchte; pleasantly cool on warm days.
